“Aimless” is the word that best describes the 2024 iteration of C2E2. There was really nothing that stood out. Yes, there were great artists present. Yes, there was a full house on Saturday. And, yes, all the swag and ephemera was on hand. But, there was little more. No industry leaders in comics (DC, Marvel, Dark Horse have are a memory). The video gaming displays were focused on the past. Those signing photographs were just not at the level of the past. Too much of the past was at front with little focus on the future. The 2024 C2E2 will be forgettable.
In year’s past there was those epic announcements and releases. There was Before Watchmen, The New 52, the One Piece trading card game, yet this year the Reed Pop and C2E2 did not deliver. This is sad. Perhaps this is a moment of transition. At day’s end of the 3rd day of the event, I struggle to wonder if the event is worth attending in the future. These types of events ebb and flow through cycles. Perhaps, my mind is elsewhere at the moment, yet I see need for a reset for the next event.
