Music festival season is closing in upon us and here’s a summary of what the southwestern edge of Lake Michigan plans to hear…
Spring Awakening (Soldier Field) June 12-14, 2015 – The rave scene is set to reawaken after a long wintery slumber in the windy. This year’s lineups are headlined by Afrojack, Tiesto, Jack Ü, Diplo, Eric Prydz, Zedd and a list of other spinning tricksters that is as long as the I&M Canal.

Grant Park Music Festival (Grant Park) June 17 to August 22, 2015 – From Mozart to Shastakovitch to Haydn, this is the place to catch classical music in a beautiful setting.

Green Music Festival (Wicker Park) June 20-21, 2015 – Celebrating green lifestyles when we need to pay more attention to our impact on the earth. Music will plat from noon to 10 p.m. and include: Shovels & Rope, Mikal Cronin, Lydia Loveless, and Futurebirds.

Taste of Joliet (Joliet Memorial Stadium) June 26-28, 2015 – This year J-town will kick off summer with the likes of Cheap Trick, Big & Rich, 7th Heaven, Plain White T’s, Ruthie Collins, Skinny Williams, Big Dog Mercer…while having a taste of all the great grub one can find in Will County!

Taste of Chicago (Grant Park) July 8-12, 2015 – Offering free music on the main stage. This year’s festival will showcase up-and-coming music by Chicago musicians. West Fest (West Town) July 11-12, 2015 – One of the city’s more intimate affairs will take place along Washington Boulevard in West Town. The Main stage will offer up tunes by Dead Moon, Murder City Devil, NoBunny, and Swirlies, while on the DJ Stage Mark Farina and Derrick Carter will be spinnin’ the vinyl.

Pitchfork (Union Park) July 17-19, 2015 – Perhaps the most user-friendly collection of Experimental, Indie, Metal, and Rap in Chicagoland this summer. The headliners are Chance the Rapper, Wilco, and Seater-Kinney. Also, slated is an array of established to up and coming act: Chvrches, Panda Bear, Future Islands, Viet Cong, Bitchin’ Bajas, Perfume Genius, and whole heck more…
