Fall Out Boy is an alternative rock band made up of four male members. The band has made quite the comeback with their 2013 album “Save Rock and Roll” to their 2014 new single “Centuries” that was released on Monday, September 8th. This song is all about making something of yourself and hoping people will remember you for how much you have accomplished. The entire music video involves footage of our beloved city of Chicago in Illinois.
Fall Out Boy originated in the city of Chicago. The majority of the members, especially Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman are all born and raised in Chicago. This music video is sort of a dedication to their hometown and looking back at where it all began. The main chorus of the song “Centuries” reads:
“Some legends are told
Some turn to dust or to gold
But you will remember me, remember me for centuries
And just one mistake
Is all it will take, we’ll go down in history
Remember me for centuries”.
They want to be forever known as the small band from Chicago that made it to the top.
The music video gives off a fast-paced artistic vibe. With how fast the footage is moving, I take it as an example of how fast their life and career is going. Even though everything in their life is going so fast and are travelling all over the world, they need to take a breath and always remember where they came from. All of the footage of the city is in black and white except for the periodic flicker of color. The editing and effects of the video almost looks like the video is just glitching throughout the entire song.
Overall, this new single and music video has a good rhythm, artistic feel, and message. Fall Out Boy will always be one of my favorites.
