NADA is a nomad in the art fair universe. The New Art Dealers Alliance is an array of loosely knitted galleries known for showing new talent in our ever-evolving aesthetic landscape from around the globe. The event has been hosted in Cologne (Germany), Hudson (NY), Miami and New York. In each iteration a diverse collection of contemporary art spaces is charged with toting or shipping art from various cities far and wide, and assembling a presentation strategy for exhibiting in a nontraditional environment. This fall the fair was held in a swanky hotel on Michigan Avenue where each room is outfitted with a pommel horse. The exhibition spaces are challenging and temporal. The lighting in each room curiously altered. The content presented here ran the gamut: comedic, decorative, obsessive, perverse, political, and environmental/socially concerned. There’s a freshness in approach. And, in contrast to EXPO, one finds a more subtle scene to that found in the pristine whitewalls encountered at a museum or traditional gallery. The innovation lends itself to transitory experience, something that is regularly welcome in the ‘art as commodity’ sphere.
